THE ROLE OF PSYCHOLOGY: AS A EVIDENCE IN THE COURT

PSYCHOLGY AS AN EVIDENCE!!!!

In my last blog, we talked about how psychology is linked with law or say legal proceedings. But this blog mainly focuses on how psychology can play an important role as an evidence for the case.

As discussed in the previous blog  psychology can help in witness testimony.

For example: imagine a person witnessed a crime and now he has to tell the court what exactly happened. As our memory is not always perfect. We forget and mix up most of the details. That’s the place where psychology comes in. Psychologists can help figure out if the memory of the witness is reliable or not? They use different trick and techniques like asking questions in a certain way to help the witness to remember the details better.

Psychology also helps in identifying the suspects. Like, sometimes witness might pick the wrong guy from a lineup because they were under a lot of stress or just because they got confused. Here, psychologists study these situations to make sure that right person gets identified.

In court, it is also important to know if the person’s mental health was good or there mental health played a part in what they did. Psychologists can evaluate a person’s mental state and see if they were able to understand what was right or wrong? And on the time of committing the crime if they were in there right state of mind or not?

Psychology is not only about the criminal cases. It can also help in civil cases.

For example:  in deciding who should get custody of a child or if someone was too upset to make a fair decision in a contract.

So after knowing all this we came to a conclusion, that psychology is not only about understanding the human’s mind but it is also about making sure that the legal system is fair and gets things right(i.e. Serving justice to the deserved). By using psychology in court, we can make sure justice is served.
