EQUALITY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL!!!
As we all know that nowadays, the fight for equality and
justice is more important than ever. There are n numbers of groups: one of them
is that which plays a crucial role in this fight i.e. group of lawyers, mainly
those who fight for LGBTQ+ rights. Let’s take a deep dive into how lawyers help
to ensure that everyone regardless of their gender or sexual orientation is
treated equally and fairly.
LGBTQ+ rights??? What are they???
LGBTQ+ stands for lesbian gay bisexual transgender and queer
and the “+” symbol denotes other orientation and identity of their gender.
Their rights are about making sure that people of this community are treated in
the same way as the other genders are being treated such as right to marry,
right to live freely, the right to work etc.
Importance of lawyers….
Lawyers play a pivotal role because they understand law very
well and know how to use it to protect the rights of people. Here are some ways
they help:
1.Sometimes, laws are very unfair or discriminatory against
a certain group of people. Lawyers can challenge these laws in court by arguing
that they violate the basic rights of others that are guaranteed by the
constitution.
2. Discrimination is a battle that numerous LGBTQ+
individuals face in their residence or workplace. It is upon the lawyer to
defend such persons in a court of law and assist them in making complaint
against the act done so that they can be compensated and attain justice.
3. In the struggle
for marriage equality, lawyers had a major role by arguing in court for the
equality in marriage, for ensuring equal rights to these individuals as those
enjoyed by other heterosexual couples.
4. Protecting the identities and rights of transgender
people: Transgender also encounters a variety of problems that relate to alters
in their official documents. For this purpose, lawyers advocate for policies
that affirm their selves through legal advice to persons concerned.
Not all the advocacy happens in courtrooms. There are other
ways too with which lawyers help LGBTQ+ individuals:
1. One way is to educate individuals on LGBTQ+ rights and
challenges by writing articles and giving speeches.
2. Other way is that individuals in law field work with
LGBTQ+ organizations by assisting in legal counsel or backing up changes in the
laws.
3. Some lawyers help people who do not have money to get
their own lawyer by giving out free services so that everyone is able to have
fair hearing.
Conclusion
Lawyers play a very important role in advocating for the
rights of LGBTQ+ people. They question each instance of inequality that such
people face. Their role is creating a society in which everybody’s life is
respectable and dignified. If we acknowledge this and provide our support, then
we can also be a part of this fight.
It is very slow process and each step that is being taken is
leading us to more developed and fair society. Whether it is a lawyer or a
normal individual each and every support matters. Within our power, we can come together, to
establish an environment in which there is no discrimination on basis of race,
gender or sexual orientation.
